PASS Project Research Team

The PASS project research team is indebted to University of Nebraska students, staff, faculty and administrators who shared time and insights with us over the course of the study. We are grateful to the Thompson Scholars Learning Community and Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation for their research partnership. This study would not have been possible without their support.

“Our longitudinal mixed methods research design aims to deepen understandings about how practitioners, programs and institutions affect change to ensure at-promise student success. We’re particularly excited about capturing nuances in how at-promise students experience campus life through frequent, succinct interval surveys and qualitative interviews.”

“Phase II of the PASS Project is powerful in that it is leveraging wisdom from students, staff, faculty, and administrators in the University of Nebraska system and members of the PASS research team to create campus cultures that better meet the needs of at-promise students. The commitment from all involved to developing and sustaining a true research-practice partnership will benefit students and is a potential model for creating change in higher education.”

The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation has offered scholarships to college students in Nebraska for over 60 years. TSLC is a college success and transition program initiated in 2008 and funded by the foundation in partnership with the University of Nebraska system.

The University of Nebraska is the state university system of Nebraska, composed of four coeducational campuses. TSLC programs exist on three University of Nebraska campuses—Kearney, Omaha and Lincoln—and serve a combined total of more than 2,300 scholars each year.

The world’s leading research center on student access and success in higher education, the Pullias Center for Higher Education advances innovative, scalable solutions to improve college outcomes for underserved students and to enhance the performance of postsecondary institutions. The Pullias Center is located within the USC Rossier School of Education, one of the world’s premier centers for graduate study in urban education.

A team of researchers based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are conducting a study on effects of the scholarship.
